USU PR Agency is a field-based course that pairs senior-level Utah State University public relations students with real-life clients to solve PR issues.
Each student 'Agency' is staffed with between 5-7 students. The student teams divide each campaign into job responsibilities in much the same way as a professional PR agency.
The students are expected to research, plan, and implement 6,12 & 18 month PR strategies for the client. While the class only runs for a single semester, many of our clients will continue implementation by hiring one of the students, creating an internship, or focusing an existing staff member to execute the plan.
Some of the client our teams have engaged are: Microsoft, SCO Group, ABC TV’s Extreme Makeover Home Edition, USU College of HASS, AirLaunch, State of Utah’s sponsorship of the 2006 Association of Space Explorers Planetary Congress, www.kidswhorip.com, The Fry Street Quartet, Ryan Adams Memorial Park, Pron Gear, the Cache Valley Radio Group, The Utah Wing of the Civil Air Patrol, and A.M Todd.
USU welcomes interested companies to contact us via this blog or by sending an e-mail to the course instructor at oldhamtroy@gmail.com
Comprehensive ‘real-world’ PR class for graduating seniors and graduate students. 15-20 students will be chosen through an interview process to be chosen as a member of one of 3 PR agencies. The cases will involve actual organizations (Sponsor) with a real-life PR issue(s) to be solved by each agency. The student agency will be required to conduct initial research, analyze market conditions, build objectives, design a comprehensive PR plan – including positioning, releases, and spokesperson talking points. The final plan will also include a plan identifying critical success factors and how the agency would test and measure these factors to ensure the campaign is/was a success. The agencies will present their plan to the client at mid-point of the semester for a go-no go decision on the strategy. Once the client buys off on the strategy, the agency team will work against an implementation plan. The teams will present their final report, complete with results against stated objectives, to the client as their final project of the semester.
